The History That Built Us
Born in a Garage. Built with Grit.
In 2006, Jim and Julie Vanderbleek walked away from a 25-year corporate career to put family first. Moving to Florida with three kids, no job, and no safety net, they founded a company rooted in what they believed most: courage, commitment, and determination.
They named it Valor, a word that perfectly captured their journey: heroic courage in the face of uncertainty.
The early days were anything but easy. Sales were non-existent. Retailers said no. The business moved back into the house. During the lowest points, life didn’t pull any punches. Jim was healing from a severe accident. Both of his parents passed within months. Julie juggled three jobs while Jim emptied their retirement savings to keep the business afloat. It was grit. It was love. And it was Valor in action.
Quitting wasn’t an option.
By 2012, things turned. Valor moved into a small warehouse. Then a bigger one. Then another. The company grew, slowly and steadily thanks to that same grit and determination that started it all.
Then in 2015, tragedy struck. Julie, co-founder and the heart of Valor, passed away unexpectedly. It could have ended there. But instead, her loss became a reason to push harder.

Today, Valor Fitness is thriving, operating out of two Florida-based retail stores and over 80,000 square feet of warehouse space. But more importantly, we’ve never lost sight of why we started.
